• Services Provided: These communities usually offer housing (e.g., apartments or cottages), meals, housekeeping, transportation, and organized social activities. However, they do not provide personal care (like bathing or dressing assistance), medical services, or in-house nursing.
• Resident Independence: Residents in independent living communities manage their own daily needs. Support staff are typically available to assist with tasks like obtaining medications (without administering them) or guiding residents in life skills, but 24-hour medical support is not included.
• Resident Population: Typically, these communities serve older adults or younger adults with mild disabilities who do not need daily personal care. They are ideal for individuals seeking a community environment with added convenience but who are capable of self-managing their health and daily activities.

• Purpose: Assisted living facilities are designed for individuals who require some level of assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, medication management, and mobility, but do not need the intensive medical care provided by a nursing home.
• Services Provided: Assisted living facilities offer more extensive support than independent living, including personal care assistance, medication administration, 24-hour supervision, and sometimes light medical monitoring (e.g., blood pressure checks).
• Resident Independence: Residents in assisted living facilities typically need moderate assistance but retain some independence. They may participate in community activities and have personal apartments or rooms, but the facility staff provides regular assistance to ensure their safety and well-being.
• Resident Population: This option is ideal for older adults or individuals with disabilities who need help with daily activities but do not require constant medical supervision. Assisted living provides a middle ground between independent living and full nursing home care.

• Purpose: Group homes offer a residential setting with a structured, supportive environment for individuals who require significant assistance in daily life but benefit from living in a small community. Group homes can cater to various populations, such as adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, mental health needs, or chronic medical conditions.
• Services Provided: Group homes provide daily personal care, supervision, and individualized support, including meal preparation, transportation, medication management, and sometimes behavioral support. They also offer social activities and structured routines tailored to residents’ needs.
• Resident Independence: Residents in group homes typically require a higher level of support and assistance. Staff members are available 24/7 to help with daily activities and ensure safety, though residents are encouraged to participate in household routines to the extent of their ability.
• Resident Population: Group homes are suitable for individuals who need more hands-on support than assisted living provides but who do not need the medical care of a hospital or nursing home. They are often chosen for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, mental health issues, or physical disabilities.
